Description:
Create stunning patterns on fabric using the art of shibori! Learn to turn 2D fabrics into 3D masterpieces. The ancient textile dyeing technique of shibori still survives and thrives in Japan, India, Indonesia, and Africa. The process entails twisting, tying, crumpling, folding, or stitching silk or cotton, transforming the materials into a sculptural form. The form is dyed using indigo or other color dyes.

With over 35 years of experience in the arts and art education, Alina Rodriguez-Rojo is passionate about raising awareness about textiles. In her art practice, she actively engages in collaborative, community-based art projects that foster civic dialogue. She co-founded the Fiber Artists-Miami Association (FAMA), a textile arts initiative established during the COVID-19 pandemic to connect and uplift textile artists.
Rojo’s contributions have earned her the Oolite Arts Ellies Award in 2018 and 2020, the Wavemaker Andy Warhol Award in 2019, and the Innovator Grant Award from the Ocean Bank Center from 2021-2024. She received the Special Needs Award, in 2017, and the Local Arts Education Association Leader Award from the Florida Art Educators Association in 2023. Rojo was president of the Dade Art Educators from 2021-2023.
