Near & Dear - A Personal Mixed Media Artwork

Build your personal visual voice by creating an artwork that tells the story of a memory you cherish. Bring printed papers, letters, photos, postal cards, patterns, and fabrics that are related to this memory. You will use them to create the background of your Near & Dear artwork. You will paint on top of the papers and keep parts of them showing. For inspiration, this could be a memory of a person you love, a place, a vacation, or a good time you spent with your loved ones. We will provide the other needed supplies and there will be some printed papers to choose from in case you could not bring yours.

About the Artist

Dima Kroma is a visual artist who paints to tell stories about the values that bring people together. Her art celebrates the spirit of cultural diversity. She has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Software Engineering, and due to her passion for painting she is working towards a Master of Fine Art in Visual Arts with Painting as her focus, from Jacksonville University. Kroma participated in many art exhibitions in Jacksonville, and she was featured at Jacksonville's Museum of Science & History (MOSH) through a solo exhibition in 2019. She uses acrylic paint, oil paint, and mixed media to tell her visual stories.

She is also an activist who helps women artists bring their visual voices out, a TEDx speaker, and a mother of two children.

Kroma taught art for four years locally and internationally to different age groups, and she joined the museum as the Youth & Family Programs Manager in February 2022.
